Aet. 38, to Sidney Low, editor of the St. James’s Gazette which on 18 July 1890 reported J.T. Grein’s plans to start an Independent Theatre in London, also noting public indifference to both Grein’s initiative and George Moore’s purported disclaimers of associ­ation. The disclaimers were actually by George’s brother Augustus, editor of the Hawk, where they appeared starting on 8 July 1890. George’s signed articles on the subject had appeared in the Hawk (17 and 24 June; 1 and 8 July 1890). The letter below was reprinted in the Hawk (22 July 1890) with disrespectful comments by Augustus.
