Aet. 38, to an American novelist. After the collapse of Belford, Clarke, Clara Lanza helped move George Moore’s novel Mike Fletcher to Minerva, who published it on 12 July 1890 with a Preface by T. T. Timayenis. George later recalled the troubled project in “Mr. George Moore on America.” In 1890, a play entitled The People’s Idol was performed at the New Olympic Theatre in London. Henry de Mille’s adaptation of Ludwig Fulda’s The Lost Paradise later opened at the Adelphi Theatre in London on 22 December 1892, just two months before George’s premier of The Strike at Arlingford. These two plays were strikingly similar.
