Aet. 38, to an American novelist. George Moore addressed a letter to a female correspondent in Chapter 8 of Confessions of a Young Man. The play submitted to Beerbohm Tree was The Strike at Arlingford. Clara Lanza’s most recent novel was Basil Morton’s Transgression (1890); her next would be A Modern Marriage (1891). The new London “rag” in 1890 with the named contributors was the weekly Speaker. George became its columnist in March 1891 after the Hawk collapsed. This letter seems to refer to an earlier article that has not been identified.
