Aet. 37, to a man of letters. In The Painter Poets (1890) Parkes anthologized verse by several painters, making no mention of George Moore. At this time, George’s portrait of his sister Nina hung in Moore Hall; it was lost when the house burned in 1923. The poems mentioned in this letter include: “The Love of the Past” (Spectator, 11 December 1880); “Looking Back” (Spectator, 15 October 1881); “Ballad of a Lost Soul” (Flowers of Passion, 1878); “A une Poitrinaire” (originally Pagan Poems, 1881, then Mike Fletcher, 1889); “A Lyrical Argument” (Temple Bar. June 1884); “To a Lost Art” (Flowers of Passion, 1878). Œuvres Poétiques, 1867-1886, by the painter Jules Breton, came out in 1887.
