1889-10 to Augustus Moore

Aet. 37, to his brother, the editor of the Hawk. Edward Heron-Allen’s ballades were not published in Augustus Moore’s newspaper, the Hawk, but were privately printed as The Ballades of a Blasé Man (October 1891).

This is the only extant letter from George to Augustus Moore. In an undated letter to Maurice Moore’s son Rory, Augustus’s son Peter wrote: “Now, as to how your father, the Senator, treated me, matters have never gone outside the family: — After my father’s death, your father shut himself up in Augustus’s study, went through all his papers (of which I was not given a sheet), and walked off with everything, including all his plays” (MS. Deane). Augustus’ papers are not with the family documents later given by Maurice Moore to the National Library of Ireland.
