Aet. 37, to an American novelist. Belford, Clark & Co., an innovative publishing and bookselling company in New York and Chicago, was currently in financial distress. George Moore’s Mike Fletcher would be published in New York at the end of 1889 by Minerva. His essay, “The New Censorship of Literature,” appeared in the London edition of the New York Herald (28 July 1889).
