The Revue indépendante (November 1888) announced that the publisher Albert Savine had engaged the novelist Paul Adam to edit Stendhal’s notes for a series of Italian stories. George Moore was now writing his next novel, Mike Fletcher, under the working title of Don Juan. His publisher William Swan Sonnenshein eventually rejected the manuscript with forceful language, ending their business relationship.
