Aet. 36, to an American novelist. August Brentano (1853-1899) was probably the Brentano brother who discusssed George Moore with Clara Lanza. George’s novel Spring Days would be published in London by Vizetelly in August 1888, during the prosecution of Henry Vizetelly for publishing “indecent” translations of novels by Émile Zola. Brentano eventually published Spring Days in 1912. Verlaine’s poem “Parsifal” in his book Sagesse (1880) was quoted in George ‘s Confessions of a Young Man, Chapter 4.
