1886-10 to Mary Blake Moore

Aet. 34, to his mother. Little is now known about George Moore’s youngest brother Henry Julian Moore. It seems he eventually made a living as a writer. Tom Ruttledge of Cornfield, County Mayo, was George’s estate agent for Moore Hall. The Freeman’s Journal (21 August 1886) denounced the “extravagant caricatures” and “infamous libels” in George’s articles in Le Figaro, published under the title of “Lettres sur l’Irlande.” George’s English text was translated into French by Felix Rabbe; his expanded English text was eventually published as Parnell and His Island (1887).
