Aet. 32, to the unidentified editor of The Bat. George Moore’s rejected article was an unsuccessful draft of “Defensio pro scriptis meis” (Time, March 1887). His proposed article is “Can the Nineteenth Century Produce a Dramatic Literature?” (The Bat, 28 April 1885). He revisited the subject in “The Stage as Seen by a Novelist.” (Evening News, December 3, 5 and 6, 1887).
