Aet. 32, to a French novelist. George Moore’s essay about his visit would be entitled “A Breakfast with Edmond de Goncourt” in the St. James’s Gazette (13 May 1884). Chérie (1884) was a portrait of the Russian painter Marie Bashkirtseff, who died aet. 25 in 1884. She and George both trained at Académie Julian though not at the same time.
