Aet. 27, to his maternal uncle and property manager. The political and economic turmoil in Ireland referenced in this letter would be recalled in Parnell and His Island (1887). George Moore’s failing income from his Irish property would soon precipitate a penurious move from Paris to London.

In 1876 the book value of George’s Irish property was £3,524 per annum, shared by the siblings and their mother. The actual value was much less.
