8 Kings Bench Walk, Temple

[Saturday] May 7th [1892]

My dear Gosse

Many thanks for your kind invitation which I am afraid I cannot accept: I shall probably go to Paris at the end of next week and remain there till the end of the month.

What do you think of Henley’s book? It seems to me to be very, very good in places, wherever the expression is most simple. But in some places it is terribly ornate. I will go further, often a commonplace and insincere emotion is decked out gorgeously. But whenever scholastic noise comes in at the door, the joy of art goes out at the window, at least for me it does.

Yours truly

George Moore
