My dear Lady Gregory
Thank you many times for copying the pages. My reason for telegraphing was Yeats’s bad writing and my hurried reading. I thought that many further alterations were being made which might upset my calculations.
I quite agree about Foley’s proposal. Yeats sent me some valuable suggestions which I will make use of.
By the time you receive this you will have read the fourth act and approved of it I hope. Martyn liked it and it seemed to me to go very well when I read it to him. You saw that I dropped out those two intolerable women, Mrs. Leach and Mrs. Cassidy.
Tell Yeats that I am dropping them out of the fifth act. He will be, I know, delighted to hear of their disappearance. I am writing an almost entirely new fifth act. It is nearly finished.
Jasper Dean comes out very prominently and Lawrence disappears. This will delight Yeats. I shall then remove Mrs. Leach and Mrs. Cassidy from the second act. The vulgarity of those two women exceeds anything I know of in literature.
Kindest regards to my fellow.
Always sincerely yours
George Moore
