[Friday, 26 January 1894]
I was glad indeed to receive your letter this evening. The handwriting shows, as you say, that it was written from a sick bed: "So there is no use in your being cross." I confess that my thoughts wandered far. That is one of the disadvantages of not being deficient in perception. However I am deeply concerned to hear that you have been ill. As soon as you are well enough to travel you will go abroad and I shall not see you for months.
By that time your book will be out, I have finished the preface which I hope will please you; and my book, with which, by the way, I am very much pleased, the end is the best thing I ever did or ever will do, will be out too and reviewed; and many other things will happen besides before I see you again.
We have seen a good deal of each other this winter and I am sorry the intimacy has been interrupted... A harsh tone has I notice found its way into this letter; I wonder why, for I am sincerely distressed at the thought of your illness and weakness.
Very sincerely yours
George Moore.
