8 Kings Bench Walk, Temple

Friday night [23 January 1891]

My dear Archer

I have read your article in the Pall Mall. It is quite terrible and will do Gosse a great deal of harm. Gosse was exceedingly nice to me on one occasion and I am sorry. You are a terrible opponent, you are so mercilessly accurate.

Have you found time to look through the play? I met a lady who is most anxious to give a matinée if she can find a play that will draw an audience. She is anxious to read mine but I told her that it depended on you whether I would produce it. I paid you a compliment. I bought the World this week so that I might read your article again.

I saw Jones’s play again. The second act is far the best. Only you and I thought so on the first night everyone I spoke to on Tuesday night was of our opinion. Curious isn't it? But the last act!!!

Yours always

George Moore
