Wednesday night [29 July 1890]
Dear Michael Field
Very well, on Saturday. If I cannot get away I will send a telegraph but I think I shall be able to manage it. I have a lot to do — journalism is a curse.
Many thanks for your letter. I shall have a lot to say about play writing and my criticism, though often incorrect, is never vague. I take that to be a merit.
I have received Rufus. I do not think it would be possible to arrange for the stage. You must write something for the stage. If you like we’ll go through an act of Rufus and I’ll tell you why I think it could not be arranged for acting. Stage composition is something quite different. The intention is different.
But there is no use my trying to explain on a sheet of note paper. Perhaps I shall not be able to explain by word of mouth, perhaps I do not understand the subject and there are numberless other perhaps — still, we shall aestheticise agreeably.
Most sincerely yours
George Moore
