The Green,  Southwick, Sussex

Wednesday [6 July 1887]

Dear Mr Wigram

I received Time this morning. The Confessions are a mass of the worst kind of blunder; it is a pity your printers do not keep a reader to check elementary and obvious errors... "that the sunsetting lend to white dress” and so forth. If any paper of consequence pitches into me for writing nonsense and bad grammar you will please write and say that the printers lost my proof and that the Confessions went to press without correction of any kind. It won’t be nice to have to make this very scandalous admission but if nothing else it will be an advertisement for your magazine.

Tomorrow I shall send you registered some more copy and do you, I beg of you, register it before sending it to the printers. I have no copy and I tell you candidly that I could not rewrite if you gave me a thousand pounds. Have it set up at once, for this time I shall ask to have a revise.

I have read through the copy and think it will do very well, but pray do not you try to read it, you couldn't.

I suppose you see the press notices of the magazine. If you see any that would interest me send them on. You are very poor so far as names go this month.

Yours very truly

George Moore
