My dear Maurice
It is quite impossible for me to come to Moore Hall. I am trying as hard as I can to get on with my novel, which is coming out very well. If this book comes out right my position will be secure. But do you go to Moore Hal, so long as the place is mine it is yours in every respect.
I wish you would persuade mother to leave off wasting money on Julian's musical education. Will you tell her that I do not think she is justified in wasting what must at the end of the year amount to a considerable sum. I do not know how much but I feel sure that the best part of 100£ a year is wasted on Julian. I say wasted for cannot conceive greater waste of money — Julian might as well hope to become a zebra or a cobra de capello as a musical composer. Julian, if he had any sense soever, would look out for employment as a clerk in Dublin. He sent me some music and some words to go with the music: music and words were equally ridiculous.
Augustus has not sent me FitzGerald's works. Talking of Augustus, I hope you will tell mother not to ask him to Moore Hall. He must not go there.
I will send you the last chapter written of my novel. It seems to me to be very strong and original. The moment I finish it, I will come and see you in Ireland or anywhere else you like.
Yours affectionately
George Moore
