1889-09-b to William Archer

Autograph letter signed, British Library, 207 words

[Edited for paragraph breaks, capitalization, spelling and punctuation.]

8 Kings Bench Walk, Temple

[Friday, September 1889]

My dear Archer

I sent you last night the last proof of Mike Fletcher. If you can will you let me have the proofs back early next week.

Say what you think of the book. I hope you will be sent the book to review. You are the best critic we have and if there were books to criticise you could do great things.

Talking of criticism, I have just corrected the proof of my article on Balzac. I think there are some good things in it. I think I shall write an article on dramatic literature. I must have it out with Tree. It is difficult to believe but A Man's Shadow produced in me such dreadful depression of spirits that I had to go to Brighton: a sort of mental biliousness.

Most sincerely yours

George Moore

PS I am just off. I return on Monday.

I forgot to post the letter. I wrote it on Friday. I will call on you tomorrow. If you have to go out, will you leave the proofs for me?

Sunday, Tonbridge Wells
