Dear Miss Terry
I am afraid you could not fix your attention on what I said. If you had taken me back in the carriage as you had intended I might have succeeded in explaining the matter to you.
It is impossible for us to prevent who likes from translating the French play anymore than Burnand could have prevented anyone from translating the French play on which he wrote his play The Colonel. Our play can only bear a faint resemblance to the French play — it was written without reference to it from a faint memory more than twenty years ago.
But perhaps you did listen to me, perhaps you did understand. You said you would buy what we have to sell viz. the text of Journeys End in Lovers Meeting — the play as performed by you at Daly’s Theatre. So perhaps we are quite agreed, perhaps we were agreed all along. ’’Solicitors are so very stupid."
You spoke of another play. If you have any idea of a character or anything to suggest I shall be glad to try to work it out for you. If you could find opportunity for a talk I fancy I should go away with an idea.
Yours sincerely
George Moore
