Autograph letter signed, National Library of Ireland, 195 words

Tuesday [25 October 1887]
Dear Mr Wigram
You remember saying when you showed me the review in the Guardian that the readers of that paper would read the notice and take the opinion of the Guardian. I did not altogether agree with you.
The enclosed comes from a lady who was a great friend of Lord Shaftesbury and all that lot. She has been a reader of the Guardian for the last twenty years and it was clearly on account of that abusive notice that she got the magazine.
Send me back the letter and let me have the proofs I want. I am buried in an article on Turgueneff for the Fortnightly. A really remarkable piece of criticism in the Fortnightly would do me a great deal of good and I am doing my very best.
Yours very truly
George Moore
