Dear Sir
I send you by this mail some more manuscript. There still remained some ten or a dozen pages in the middle of the book which I thought I could improve. I think I have done so; I think the pages I send you will materially strengthen the book. I beg that you will see that they are inserted even if the book is all in type. This is the last manuscript I shall send.
Now to explain the alteration. It begins in the middle of page 151 and it goes down to the middle of 161. The reason of the alteration is that, as Hubert is no longer the principal character, it would be absurd to describe his adventures in London, which by the way were not well described.
I have not only removed what would be a flagrant mistake but have amplified Emily's character and made her more interesting to the reader. I must impress upon you again the necessity of having the portion of the book printed from manuscript carefully read.
I hope you will send me a complete proof as soon as one comes in and some copies of the book. May I ask for twenty?
I am very truly yours
George Moore
I hope you like the new title, An Autumn Tragedy. I hope you will use it.
