8 Kings Bench Walk, Temple

[Friday] April 20 [1894]

My dear Vanderem,

Thank you for your kind letter. My book Esther Waters is a huge success, literary and commercial. All the papers say it is my best book — better than A Mummers Wife — I have lived under the shadow of that book for the last ten years.

Esther Waters is all about betting in low life. This is a subject which interests the Parisians. If you like the book, Xau would like an article on it I am sure. The book lends itself; you could write an excellent article about the betting.

I hope your book is a success. It deserves to be. I hope to go to Paris in May. If I do, we must try to see something of each other. Is there any chance of your coming here?

Thanking you again I remain

Very truly yours

George Moore
