92 VICTORIA STREET. S.W.

Wednesday, March 7th 1900

Dear Fisher Unwin

I hope I shall receive this evening or tomorrow morning a letter explicitly stating that you have no objection whatever to my publishing Sister Teresa in Harper’s.

Regarding the Appletons I may as well tell you once and for all that nothing on God’s earth will induce me to publish with them; any other arrangement may be possible but not this one; I would infinitely prefer to destroy the MS than to give it to them.

With your consent I will write to them saying that I do not wish to publish with them, adding that I feel sure once they learn my wish not to publish with them any wish they may have entertained to publish my writing will instantly pass away.

My books cannot be of any great value to the Appletons and even if they were they would not seek to publish them (even if such a thing were possible) against my express wishes.

This letter is I hope perfectly clear. Hoping to hear from you at your early convenience I am

Truly yours

George Moore
