It is true that I was surprised and pained at not hearing from you for so long a while. Nevill went to see you the other day, you were not ill then, and I understood that you were going to the theatre with him tomorrow Saturday. Of course this does not mean that I think that your illness is an excuse; I write these things to show you that there was reason for my surprise.

I am very sorry to hear that you are ill; I wonder what is the matter and hope to see you before you are sent away for a change. I suppose you will be up in a day or so.
