The Problem of a Peasantry
The Observer, 21 December 1919, page 18, 89 words
[Letter to the Editor commenting on a long letter by G.K. Chesterton to the editor of The Observer, 30 November 1919, page 8 and another long letter by St. John Ervine to the editor of The Observer, 7 December 1919, page 8.]
Sir, — If I may be permitted to intervene for a moment in the dispute now raging in your columns between Mr. St. John Ervine and Mr. Chesterton, I would say that I regret I cannot accept the willingness alleged by Mr. Chesterton of the Irish peasant to hold at all costs by certain aspects of Palestinian folk-lore as proof of his power to take a wider view of the universe than the tail and the horns of his cow reveal to him. — Truly yours,
GEORGE MOORE.
